Yahoo! BB to begin offering Yahoo! BB 50M Revo, featuring maximum upload speed of 12.5 Mbps and maximum download speed of 50.5 Mbps
January 31, 2006On February 1, BB TECHNOLOGY Corp. (Headquarter: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Masayoshi Son; hereafter “BB TECHNOLOGY”) will launch a new service called Yahoo! BB 50M Revo*1, which will feature a maximum upload speed of 12.5 Mbps and a maximum download speed of 50.5 Mbps.
Yahoo! BB 50M Revo will boast the fastest data transmission speed among Yahoo! BB's lineup of ADSL services. With the adoption of the Super Upstream Quad*2 (SUQ) function, the service's maximum upload speed will significantly improve, from 3 Mbps to 12.5 Mbps. In addition, thanks to an improvement in the hardware and tuning, ISDN interference will decrease, expanding the maximum download speed by up to approximately 30%*3.
BB TECHNOLOGY will begin offering Yahoo! BB 50M Revo on February 1 of this year to customers who apply for Yahoo! BB services for the first time. Applications for Yahoo! BB 50M Revo from existing customers are scheduled to be accepted beginning in March.
SoftBank Broadband Service, an Internet access service for customers of Internet service providers affiliated with BB TECHNOLOGY, will launch a similar service called SoftBank Broadband ADSL 50M Revo. The schedule for this service will be the same as that for Yahoo! BB 50M Revo.

- *The use of this service will require additional monthly service fees charged by each ISP (Enjoy BB and Nexyz. BB). Customers subscribing to the wireless LAN pack service are charged an additional 990yen a month (tax inclusive 1,039yen).
- *1This is a “best effort” type of service. Both maximum upload and download speeds listed in the news release are theoretical maximum speeds calculated based on technology adopted by BB TECHNOLOGY. Therefore, BB TECHNOLOGY does not guarantee that the listed maximum speeds will be possible under any circumstances. Rather, the speeds will vary, depending upon such external conditions as the distance from the NTT central office to the customer’s home and the communications-related environment of his/her home. Because of these external conditions, it may take longer than expected for some customers to begin receiving the service while other customers may not be able to receive the service at all.
- *2SUQ technology is designed to achieve a maximum upload speed of 12.5 Mbps by utilizing a radio frequency band between 4,000 KHz and 5,200 KHz exclusively for uploading data between the NTT central office and the customer’s home. When the Company adopted this technology, measures to prevent interference by amateur wireless operators were taken in line with a proposal put forward by the Information and Communications Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. (High-speed communications featuring a maximum upload speed of 12.5 Mbps are available only for customers whose homes are located less than 800 meters away from the nearest NTT central office.)
